WAYNE WYMAN has extensive experience in opera, both as a stage director and as a conductor, and has served as Artistic Director for the Lyric Opera of San Antonio (now San Antonio Opera) and Capital Opera in Raleigh, North Carolina. His work is consistently well-received by audiences and critics: “Wyman’s experienced hand was evident in the singers’ clean, confident movements, their detailed characterizations, and their ability to maintain appropriate expressions and body language in non-singing portions of the performance.” (Le nozze di Figaro), “…Wyman…kept things simple and direct, instilling his performers with individual characterizations and dignified, emotional truths.” (Madama Butterfly) (Roy C. Dicks, Raleigh News and Observer)

In San Antonio Wyman racked up an impressive list of triumphs as the company’s primary conductor and stage director in shows ranging from comedies such as Die Fledermaus (“Wayne Wyman’s deft bordering on brilliant stage direction never allowed interest to flag.”) to the high drama of Tosca (“Thrillingly sung, handsomely staged, and sumptuously conducted”) (Mike Greenberg, San Antonio Express-News) His summers are spent in Graz, Austria on the faculty of the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS).
Wyman earned an Artist Diploma in Opera from the Cincinnati Conservatory and studied privately with the Director of the Opera School at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna.
